William Shakespeare has published 154 sonnets in 1609, usually focus on love. Shakespearean or English sonnet, contains 3 quatrains and a couplet (The rhyme scheme is abab cdcd efef gg). Shakespeare didn’t invent, but was the most popular user of the form.Usually the 3 quatrains set up the problem, the couplet offers the solution. The whole sonnet sequence is devoted to a Mr. W. H., whose identity has been one of the unsettled mysteries in literary history. It has probably due to this reason that people have been having wild speculations about William Shakespeare's identity himself. (Some guess that he is a homosexual, others think there never was Shakespeare, but Queen Elizabeth herself has created those wonders.)
Sonnet 18 Shall I compare thee to a summer's day? Thou art more lovely and more temperate: Rough winds do shake the darling buds of May, And summer's lease hath all too short a date, Sometime too hot the eye of heaven shines, And often is his gold complexion dimmed, And every fair from fair sometime declines, By chance, or nature's changing course, untrimmed. But thy eternal summer shall not fade, Nor lose possession of that fair thou ow'st, Nor shall death brag thou wand'rest in his shade, When in eternal lines to time thou grow'st. So long as men can breathe or eyescan see, So long lives this, and this gives life to thee.
My Mistress’ Eyes Are Nothing like the Sun My mistress’ eyes are nothing like the sun;
