At the beginning of the above video there is a news clip of a recent official announcement from the World Health Organization: Santa Claus is immune to COVID19, he’s fine, but he’s very busy.

Yes it’s that time of the year again. It’s time to revisit the story about Santa Claus and the sleigh-pulling reindeers, especially the one with the LED clown nose, and sleigh-bells and chestnuts roasting on an open fire and all that jazz. 

是的，又到這時(shí)候了。又該講講圣誕老人和那群拉雪橇的馴鹿，尤其是那只帶有 LED 小丑鼻子的，還有響叮當(dāng)?shù)牧醿汉突鹕峡镜睦踝邮裁吹?..

Shakespeare said,

And all the men and women merely players.

They have their exits and their entrances,

And one man in his time plays many parts…”

For me, Christmas is the best example of this: When you think about it, this whole Christmas thing is really just like a big global interactive immersive play; there’s a basic plot that we all kinda know and follow and we play our part to create the illusion of a world where Santa Claus comes to deliver a present! Of course, our audience is comprised of all the kids in the world who are still innocent enough to believe in such a fairytale. 

我覺(jué)得圣誕節(jié)就是以上比喻的典范：你想，整個(gè)圣誕節(jié)其實(shí)就是個(gè)全球性的互動(dòng)沉浸式話??；有個(gè)基本劇本我們都需要知道并且按劇情上演，我們各自扮演自己的角色營(yíng)造一個(gè)有圣誕老人來(lái)送禮物的魔幻世界！當(dāng)然，我們的觀眾就是世界上所有的孩子們，因?yàn)樗麄冞€保持著天真，還相信童話。

It’s like this big practical joke we pull on our youngsters, just because they can’t read yet and rely on us to get all their information about how this world works… and we use this time-honoured tradition to deceive them, fooling them, betraying their trust.

這好比一個(gè)我們給孩子們搞的一個(gè)善意的國(guó)際惡作劇，因?yàn)樗麄冞€不識(shí)字所以必須依靠我們來(lái)得到他們對(duì)這個(gè)世界認(rèn)知的所有咨詢… 而我們一直在用個(gè)古老的傳統(tǒng)來(lái)騙他們，懵他們，背叛他們對(duì)我們的信任。

Why do we do this? We may never know the real answer… but in the meantime, enjoy this immersive play, and all the beautiful things it comes with. Have a magical Christmas!
