Place Design Group was engaged to provide landscape services for the display area of Lushan Mansion, located in Tianfu New District, Chengdu, China. The landscape style of the project is echoed with the architectural style, which looks like traditional Chinese official house. The magnificent landscape layout and the well arranged spatial variation are the highlights of the project. The display area can be divided into three parts: the entrance, the back lake and the courtyard. The altitude difference between the entrance and the Lushan Avenue, the road in front of it is near 3 meters. Taking the main building as the focal point, designers used a series of water features, which are in long strips and act like broad wings embracing the building, to create multiple spatial levels and highlight the magnificent atmosphere of the entrance. Driving through the Lushan Avenue, you will have a profound impression on the momentum created by the architecture and its symmetric landscape design. The project, generally speaking, is a Chinese style works, but the landscape techniques and approach are modern. Specifically, the details are full of Chinese elements while the space arrangement is in the modern framework. As a result, Lushan Mansion is harmony in peace and grandeur. In the entrance, the symmetric water feature creates a magnificent atmosphere. You can feel a sense of both modern and traditional Chinese here. The grand cascade is in 12 groups, structurally layered and extraordinarily displayed. However, in details, designers use the Chinese traditional patterns such as fretwork and auspicious clouds, realizing a balance between the inheritance of traditional Chinese style and innovation. Walking through the back door of the enclosed sales office, you will find an open space. The footpath is surrounded by groups of translucent and glittering “fish”, which both add the artistic value to the area, and guide visitors to the back lake area. Like other places in the Lushan Mansion, the back lake area is well arranged to deliver both modern and traditional Chinese style. The axis design of the lake is a modern approach, while the waterscape is full of varieties in levels and forms, which is usually applied in traditional Chinese landscape. The exquisite natural stony hills along the lakeside combine with the uniquely designed plants, creating a natural feeling. The foot paths in the back lake area is in a backtracking style. Wandering on the path, visitors can enjoy the surrounding views, which imply the philosophy of “a peaceful living environment” and “a harmony living experience”. Our design focus for this project was to inherit traditional Chinese culture in an innovative way.
