A man found guilty of cutting off a boy's hand and boiling it was sentenced
to 11 years in prison in Shenyang city, capital of Liaoning Province.
The incident occurred at a budget hotel in Tiexi District on October 22. Wang
Xinyu, a 31-year-old unemployed man, had a quarrel with his girlfriend and
vented his anger on the woman's son, who was staying with him, prosecutors said,
according to Liaoshen Evening News.
Wang hit the boy in the head and then cut off his right hand with a kitchen
knife. He threw the hand in a kettle and boiled it. He later realized his
mistake and tried to stop the boy from bleeding by using telephone wires and
sent the boy to a hospital, the report said.
Surgeons said they couldn't reattach the hand as it had been badly damaged,
the newspaper said.
Wang later surrendered to police.
Shenyang Intermediate People's Court tried Wang on May 13. Wang admitted his
crime and apologized. His lawyer said it was done "impulsively" and asked for a
lenient sentence, according to the report.
Considering that he was willing to pay compensation and had been forgiven by
the boy's family, Wang was given a lighter sentence, the court said.
