 各種表示“看”的動(dòng)詞

         如果問你英語中“看”怎么說,你首先想到的一定是 see , look 或

     watch。其實(shí),英語中還有不少詞匯可以表示不同的“看”法。下面我列

     舉一些,加上中英文注釋,請(qǐng)辨別它們的用法區(qū)別。

 

stare “盯著看”,指睜大眼睛盯著看,常帶有好奇、吃驚、贊嘆的眼神。

   ( to look for a long time with the eyes wide open, especially when 

   supprised, admired or frightened)

 

   1)The little girl stared at the toys in the window.

      小女孩盯著櫥窗里的玩具看。

   2)She quickly left the lounge when she found some guys staring at her.

        她發(fā)現(xiàn)一些家伙盯著她看,她很快離開了休息室。

   3)It's not polite to stare at a girl in the face. 

         盯著姑娘的臉瞧是不禮貌的。

   4)During the press confrence, each boxer tried to stare the other down.

        在新聞發(fā)布會(huì)上,每一個(gè)拳擊手強(qiáng)盯著對(duì)方,想讓他氣餒。

 

glare  “怒視”、“瞪眼”,指瞪著眼睛看,常有生氣、發(fā)惱的眼神。(to look

   directly and continuously at someone or something in an angry way)

 

   1)The two men stood glaring drunkenly at each other, while the crowd looked

        around.

        兩個(gè)人站在那里彼此怒目而視,四周有一群人圍觀。

   2)The actress glared at the reporter when he asked her an awkward personal

       question.

      當(dāng)記者問及關(guān)于她個(gè)人的尷尬問題時(shí),這位女演員兩眼憤怒地盯著他。

   3)Tony redmond was glaring after him, his face contorted, white with rage .

      托尼雷德蒙怒視著他,臉都變了形,氣得刷白。

   4)Nim glared at Paulsen, but contained his anger, saying nothing .

      尼姆瞪了波爾森一眼,但卻按住了怒火,一言未發(fā)。

 

gaze “凝視”、“注視”,指若有所思地地凝視;或出于好奇、羨慕、愛戀、驚異

  而長(zhǎng)時(shí)間目不轉(zhuǎn)睛地看。(to look at something or someone for a long time, 

  especially in surprise or admiration, or because you are thinking about

  something else.)

 

  1)She stood by the window, gazing thoughtfully into the distance.

     她站在窗前,若有所思地望著遠(yuǎn)處。

  2)A fresh-faced little girl gazes in wonder at the bright fairground lights.

     一個(gè)臉蛋紅撲撲的小女孩好奇地盯著游樂場(chǎng)里那些明亮的彩燈。

  3)He gazed at the picture for about two minutes and left without saying a word.

     他凝視著照片大約兩分鐘, 一句話也沒說就走了。

  4)He gazed at his wife's photograph, and tears spouted from his eyes .

     他看著妻子的照片,不禁淚如雨下。

 

peer “凝視”、“端詳”,指因難以看清而瞇著眼睛仔細(xì)地或吃力地看。(to look

  carefully or with difficulty)

 

  1)He had to peer at his book because the room was dark. 

     因?yàn)榉块g里很暗,他看書時(shí)可費(fèi)勁了。

  2)She peered at it through the sheets of rain but could not identify its shape

     before it disappeared again .

     她透過雨幕緊盯著它看,但還沒等看清它的形狀,它就消失不見了。

  3)He peered through the green hedge at the two dark figures under the tree .

     他扒開綠籬,注視樹下那兩個(gè)模糊的身影。

  4)Smith rubbed condensation off the inside of a porthole and peered out at the 

     boats bobbing up and down in the harbor .

     史密斯用手抹去舷窗內(nèi)的蒸氣,看著港口內(nèi)浮動(dòng)的小船。

 

peep  “視”、看”、“瞥”。指過洞空、縫隙向偷窺。(to

  secretly look at something for a short time, usually through a hole )

 

  1)We found someone peeping into the room outside the windows.

     我們發(fā)現(xiàn)有人從窗外向房間里偷窺

  2)You shouldn’t be curious to peep into others’ private life.

     你不應(yīng)該好奇窺視別人的私人生活。

  3)I saw her peeping through the curtains into the room.

     我看見她正在透過窗簾往房間里偷看。

  4)She was angry for her mother ' s peeping at her diary.

     她因母親偷看她的日記而生氣。 


peek  “窺視”、“偷看”, 泛指各種方式的窺視、偷看。使用范圍比peep 廣。  

  (to look, especially for a short time or while trying to avoid being 

   seen)

 

  1)Close your eyes. Don’t peek,

     閉上眼睛,別偷看。

  2)I only peeked —I didn't see anything interesting"

     我只是瞅了一眼,沒用發(fā)現(xiàn)什么有興趣的東西。

  3)He was caught peeking at a girl taking a bath.

     他被推抓住在偷女孩洗澡。

  4)The children peeked over the wall to see what was happening inside the yard.

     孩子們?cè)趬︻^窺視院子里面發(fā)生的事情。

 

leer “斜瞅”、“睨視”、“瞄”。( to look suggestively or obliquely)

 

  1)The old lady at the desk leered at her knowingly.

     辦公桌旁的老太婆會(huì)心地斜睨了她一眼。

  2)He was always leering at female members of staff.

     她老是睨視女職員。

 

glance  “匆匆一看”、“掃視”。指迅速地看一眼,掃一眼;或指粗略地一下,

   瀏覽一下。(to give a quick and brief look)

 

   1)He walked quickly and glanced back now and then to see if he was being

      followed.

      他走得很快,不時(shí)回頭看了一眼,想看看他是否被人跟蹤。

   2)On the subway train, I always like to glance at the headlines in the 

       newspaper.

      在地鐵上我總是喜歡看看報(bào)紙的大標(biāo)題。

   3)I thought I heard someone following me, and glancing round, I caught sight 

      of a dark figure in the shadows. 

      我覺得我聽到了有人跟隨我的聲音,便環(huán)視四周,發(fā)現(xiàn)黑暗中有一個(gè)人影。

   4)Could you glance through this letter and see if it's alright?

      你能瀏覽一下這封信,看看它是沒問題?

 

glimpse  “瞥見”、“瞥見一眼”。在很短的時(shí)間里瞥見、掃見某人或某物,沒

   有完全看清。(to see something or someone for a very short time and do 

    not see very clearly or completely)

 

  1)I glimpsed her among the crowd just before she disappeared from sight. 

     我在人群中瞥見了她,轉(zhuǎn)眼她就消失了。

  2)We glimpsed the ruined abbey from the windows of the train.

     我們從火車的窗戶瞥見了這棟燒毀了的修道院。

  3)I only glimpsed him in the street corner, so I cannot guess where he was 

       going.

     我只是在街角瞥見他一眼,所以我不猜出他要到哪里去。

 

gape   “凝視”,指目瞪口呆地注視。(to look in great surprise at someone

  or something, especially with an open mouth)

 

  1)Don` t gape: it’ s rude!

    別張著嘴傻瞪著,太不禮貌了!

  2)On my sudden appearance, she gaped at me foolishly and said nothing for a

     long time.

     對(duì)我的突然出現(xiàn),她目瞪口呆傻傻地凝視著我,半天沒說出話來。

  3)He was not the type to wander round gaping at everything like a tourist.

     他不是那種像個(gè)游客似的四處閑逛、對(duì)什么都好奇張望的人。

  4)Everyone gaped at the smashed cars on the freeway.

     每個(gè)人看到高速公路上那部撞得面目全非的車都目瞪口呆。

 

gawk “呆呆地看著” , 指呆頭呆腦、別傻乎乎地盯著看 (to look at someone 

   or something in a stupid or rude way)

 

   1)Don’t sit there gawking like that.Give me a hand.

     別傻乎乎地坐著,過來搭把手。

  2)Don't gawk at that pretty girl. 

     別呆頭呆腦地瞪著那個(gè)漂亮小妞。

  3)But when the snow stopped, residents ventured outside on foot to gawk at the

     mountains of snow.

     但當(dāng)雪停了,居民冒險(xiǎn)步行出去看山上的積雪。

  4)Participants are, of course, tethered while they walk and  gawk  at the city

     below.

     當(dāng)然,參與者都用繩系著,一邊走一邊驚呆地看下面的城市。

 

ogle “媚眼看”, 指送秋波,施媚眼。 (to look at someone with obviously

  sexual interest)

 

  1)He likes to ogle at the pretty girls.

     他愛盯著漂亮的女孩子。

  2)I saw you just now ogling the woman in the red dress.

     我剛才看見你色瞇瞇地盯著那個(gè)穿紅衣服婦女看。

  3)He ogled at all the attractive girls in the office.

     他向辦公室里所有有魅力的女孩暗送秋波。 

  4)Don ' t ogle at other girls in front of your girlfriend. It ' ll make her 

     jealous.

     在你女朋友的面前最好不要跟別的女人眉來眼去,這樣會(huì)讓她忌妒。
