John: Hello, welcome to Real English from BBC Learning English. I’m John. Helen: 大家好,我是 Helen. John: Today, we're going to look at words and phrases that you might not find in your dictionary. Helen: 地道英語和大家一起學(xué)習(xí)現(xiàn)代英式英語中經(jīng)常出現(xiàn)的流行詞匯和實(shí)用表達(dá)。那 John, 今天你給我們帶來的新詞是什么呢? John: Well, today's phrase is to go ballistic. Helen: Sounds a bit odd, what does it mean? 子彈發(fā)射? To go ballistic. John 你最好給我們解釋一下吧! John: If you go ballistic, you become enraged, really really angry! Helen: 這么說如果一個人 go ballistic, 那意思就是說他已經(jīng)失去理智了,被什么事情給氣瘋了, to go ballistic. John: Someone's about to go ballistic here. Example A: Well, I told her we were going on holiday next week. B: Bet she's looking forward to it. A: No, she went ballistic, she said ''I can't go because I’ve got an interview that week!'' B: You idiot! Helen: I can see why she went ballistic, she couldn't go on holiday! John: She really went ballistic, she went mad! Her boyfriend organised a holiday when she couldn't possibly go. Helen: So she went ballistic, 她被氣壞了,已經(jīng)失去了理智。 John: OK, if something suddenly makes you angry you can say, ''I went ballistic!'' meaning you went crazy, mad, very very angry! Helen: John, don't go ballistic at me! John: Don't worry Helen, I'm not angry, yet! Helen: You've been listening to Real English from BBC Learning English. 我們下次節(jié)目再會。 John: Join us next time. Bye. Helen: Bye. |
