Nowadays the young people are plagued by an anxiety for personal development,persona] realization and personal success. Many college students and professionals are crazy about going abroad to pursue further study.They leave their native lands and do not return.They search for a comfortable life in America.The departure of our country' s best and outstanding intellectuals hurts the confidence of those who stay at home,as can be seen by the long line that snakes around the US Embassy in China where people wait for visas to go to the US.
    It should be admitted that studying abroad is a very useful way to increase one's educational experience.It cultivates knowledge about one's self as well as the outside world.Nevertheless,going abroad for further study is by no means the only way of obtaining success.As far as I am concerned,young people should stay at home and serve our country first.Here are my reasons for it.
    Firstly,we all know the saying "the rise and fall of the nation is the concern of every citizen" .We should do what our motherland needs and should not do what she dislikes.Just as every bird likes its own nest,so we should love our country.We are Chinese,undoubtedly,we should serve China.As "the salt of the earth",we college students should have a strong sense of social responsibility.A patriot is a person who loves and is willing to defend his country.He will never rest satisfied with mere vow and pledge.He must live for her in peaceful time; when needed,he must stand forth to give his life for her.Such person I will be.
    Secondly,one's value lies in what he or she can create for society.It's how much you give,not how much you take.Our government pays our tuition,we cadets are entitled to free board and medical care.With little financial pressure,we live a much easier life in the university.We must go boldly beyond the sphere of material pursuit and beyond the narrow world of self.China is now in her great process of modernization,which not only gives us more but also requires us more than ever before.Therefore,ask not what our motherland can do for us,ask ourselves what we can do for her.Learn to always do our duties faithfully and for ever contribute to our society.
    Thirdly,we young people should aim high,for living without an aim is like sailing without a compass.Our great leaders set us good examples in fostering lofty ideals.Chairman Mao called on us to "serve the people heart and soul".Premier Zhou was determined to "study hard for the properity of the Chinese nation".Deng Xiaoping once said,"I am a son of the Chinese people.I am in deep love of my motherland and my people.' Lives of those great men all remind us we can make our lives noble and meaningful.I'm firmly resolved to devote my life to the cause of our national defence.I will go where I am needed most.
    History is now calling us forward to give testimony to our patriotism and heroism towards this nation.It is the sacred responsibility of our generation to face up to the new century.We should enrich ourselves with knowledge and high technology and lose no time in sharpening our personal competence for future work.I' ll defend our motherland with all my heart,all my wisdom,all my youth and all my blood.I firmly believe that a glorious new millennium for China will also promise a bright future for all of us.^
